A method for evaluating computer-supported collaborative learning processes

چکیده
Understanding and analyzing collaborative learning processes requires a ®negrained sequential analysis of the group interaction in the context of learning goals. Several researchers in the area of cooperative work take the quality of the group outcome as a success criterion. Nevertheless, recent ®ndings are giving importance to the quality of the cooperation process itself. This paper presents a set of indicators the main objective of which is to evaluate the collaborative learning process. In this paper our aim is to present a method, which can be used in analyzing the interaction processes in a CSCL environment. We have de®ned an experiment to gather data from groups working on a simple task. These data are then used to build some cooperation indicators, which in turn allow us to estimate the quality of the work process.

متن کاملInvestigating patterns of interaction in networked learning and computer-supported collaborative learning: A role for Social Network Analysis
The focus of this study is to explore the advances that Social Network Analysis (SNA) can bring, in combination with other methods, when studying Networked Learning/ Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (NL/CSCL). We present a general overview of how SNA is applied in NL/CSCL research; we then go on to illustrate how this research method can be integrated with existing studies on NL/CSCL, ...
متن کاملEvolution of Collaborative Learning Environments based on Desktop Computer to Mobile Computing: A Model-Based Approach
In the last years a great amount of collaborative applications have been developed. These applications can be framed in the paradigms of Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) or Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) according to their specific purpose (group work or learning in-group). On the other hand some of them have been developed according to the paradigm of mobile computi...
متن کاملThe dialectical potential of Cultural Historical Activity Theory for researching sustainable CSCL practices
This article explores conceptual and methodological challenges in researching sustainable computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) within authentic educational settings. It argues that to investigate the sustainability of CSCL in such settings, we need to understand how new innovations become enculturated as part of educational communities and the shared repertoires and practices of lea...
متن کاملA framework for evaluating computer supported collaborative learning
Starting from some central issues of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in learning and of collaborative learning, this paper postulates a composite framework for evaluating learning environments. Using the framework, one scenario is described and analysed. The framework identifies where ICT in learning (e-learning) may be enhanced and where ICT may be difficult for students. Some ...
